UK Shop Price Decline Eases In August: BRC
Prices in British shops fell last month at a slightly slower pace although food price inflation remained at record low levels, the British Retail Consortium said on Wednesday. The BRC said retail prices in August were 1.6 percent lower than a year earlier, compared with a 1.9 percent decline in July which was the steepest fall in the survey's more than seven-year history. Food prices rose 0.3 percent in August, matching July's record low.

BP Asks Court To Remove Claims Administrator In Gulf Spill Case
BP Plc asked a U.S. court on Tuesday to fire the court-appointed lawyer tasked with paying out compensation to people affected by the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, saying Patrick Juneau had not disclosed an alleged conflict of interest before taking the job. It was the latest legal challenge to the settlement filed by the London-based oil major, which has complained previously that Juneau has been too generous and liberal when approving claims. Juneau has said he is just applying the rules of the settlement agreement.

32 Teens Escape From Nashville Detention Center
A state government spokesman said 32 teens "overwhelmed" their minders and escaped from a juvenile detention center by crawling under a weak spot in a fence. Hours later eight were still on the run. Police caught up with some walking along roads or coming out of the woods. Some turned themselves in and some were swiftly delivered back to the detention center by their own families, concerned about what other trouble they might face on the outside.

Shell CEO Says U.S. Should Export Oil And Embrace Global Markets
The head of energy company Royal Dutch Shell said on Tuesday that U.S. policymakers should lift the crude oil export ban because allowing the shipments would make global energy system more stable. Shell CEO Ben van Beurden told a conference on energy at Columbia University, "Policy makers here in the U.S. should embrace a truly liberalized diverse and global energy market." He said.U.S. oil and natural gas exports, "would reinforce the long term future of North American energy production," significantly improve the U.S. balance of trade, and "help to make the global energy system much more stable."

Canada, China Quietly Hold Top-level Meeting On Strained Ties
Senior officials from Canada and China met quietly in Ottawa last week to discuss relations that have deteriorated so badly that they could threaten Prime Minister Stephen Harper's planned visit to China in November. Canada sees China as an important trading partner and in early 2012 Harper went to Beijing to pitch the idea of Canada as a potential oil supplier. The closeness of the ties are in question after two high-profile incidents. In late July, Canada accused Chinese hackers of being responsible for an attack on a government computer.
