Bangladesh Today: Bangladesh government braces up to tackle strikes and protests

It has been a violence filled week in Bangladesh. Protesters took to the streets of Dhaka and other cities as part of an opposition campaign for early elections under an independent caretaker administration. Hundreds of supporters of the Jamaat-e-Islami party took to the streets of Dhaka and several other cities as they clashed with officers and burnt vehicles. Police chased the activists who pelted stones and torched cars, despite the heavy presence of security forces. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had urged the people to be united in resisting any violent activities of the Jamaat-e-Islami, which is spearheading the protests.
