The city's police superintendent, Faisal Mukhtar says the blast in Peshawar was a suicide attack. A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban, Shahidullah Shahid, says his group had no connection to the blast.
Sailors To Navigate Dirty Water In 1st Rio Test
Sailors, coaches and the mayor of Rio de Janeiro acknowledge the problem: Guanabara Bay, the venue for sailing at the 2016 Olympics, is badly polluted. Some liken it to a sewer. The water is filthy after years of untreated waste being poured into the enclosed bay, a mess officials say will take at least a decade to fix. Rio dumps almost 70 percent of its untreated sewage into the surrounding waters. Cleaning the bay was part of the pitch to land the Olympics, with officials pledging to cut the flow by 80 percent by 2016. But Rio's state environment secretary, Carlos Francisco Portinho, has acknowledged in a best-case scenario the reduction will be only 50 percent. The first test will be starting Sunday with the Rio Games. The weeklong regatta will feature all 10 Olympic classes, with 216 boats and 321 competitors from 34 nations.
Lady Gaga Goes Braless And Wishes She Lived In The '80s
Apparently Lady Gaga is taking her collaboration with Tony Bennett very seriously. The "G.U.Y." singer's full-on '80s lounge singer look is straight out of a Rainbow Room performance circa one of Tony's greatest decades. But who told the Working Girl look-a-like that bras were optional back then? Because if the answer is Tony Bennett, then this duet project just got very, very interesting. This shock of hot pink is a gorgeous, bold choice, but that's where our compliments cut off. Not only is the "Applause" artist wearing full-length silk in the middle of summer while walking a dog, but the free-flying tata's make for an awkward nip pop situation. We love a good throwback to the decade that gave us Gaga in the first place, but a stone-washed jean short and neon tank top would be a much better choice.

Miley posted some pictures of the ink-ing to her Instagram; one showing her with the tattoo gun, and another of Cheyne's finished product. The 21-year-old singer is known for having a ton of tattoos--at least two dozen! For her first outing as an ink master, Miley went simple, giving Cheyne a humble little smiley face on his left ankle.

The Beats Music app also has some player improvements that deliver better playback and general performance, as is often the case with software updates. This is the first significant update to the music app following the announcement that Apple would be acquiring the Beats Music brand along with Beats Electronics. The changes reflect changes that seems designed to answer feedback provided by users, and to make available some functionality that reviewers though was potentially missing.
One Direction's Zayn Malik Receives Death Threats For #FreePalestine Tweet
Fans of One Direction might love the same boy band, but they don't necessarily all share the same political views. Zayn Malik discovered this firsthand after he weighed in on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Twitter Sunday night, posting the "#FreePalestine" hashtag to his 13 million followers. Since then, the tweet has been re-tweeted and favorited over 160,000 times. While some 1D fans voiced their appreciation for Zayn's public show of Palestinian support, others—particularly those in Israel--were outraged, with some reportedly even making death threats against the 21-year-old Brit.
Israeli PM Speaks Of 'prolonged' Campaign In Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Israel must be ready for a "prolonged" military operation in the Gaza Strip and will "act aggressively and responsibly" until the mission is completed. Israel launched the operation against Gaza's Hamas rulers three weeks ago, initially from the air and then on the ground. Israel has said it wants to decimate Hamas' ability to fire rockets at Israel and to destroy a network of Hamas military tunnels under the Gaza-Israel border. However, Netanyahu indicated in a televised speech Monday that he is widening the objectives, saying that a demilitarization of Gaza must be part of any future solution for the territory of 1.7 million people. Palestinian health officials say more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed over the past three weeks. According to the United Nations, about three-fourth of them were civilians. Israel has lost 43 soldiers and two civilians, as well as a Thai worker.
More Than 90% Of Human DNA Is Useless 'Junk,' Study Finds
More than a decade has passed since the completion of the Human Genome Project, the international collaboration to map all of the letters in our DNA. The huge effort led to revolutionary genomic discoveries, but more than 10 years later, it's still unclear what percentage of the human genome is actually doing something important. A new study suggests that only 8.2% of human DNA , or about 250 million of these so-called DNA letters, are functional, and more than two billion are not.
FAA Proposes To Fine Southwest Airlines $12M
The government is proposing a $12 million civil fine against Southwest Airlines for failing to comply in three separate cases with safety regulations related to repairs on Boeing 737 jetliners. The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday that beginning in 2006 Southwest made "extreme makeover" alterations to eliminate potential cracking of the aluminum skin on 44 jetliners. The FAA said an investigation determined that Southwest's contractor, Aviation Technical Services Inc. of Everett, Washington, failed to follow proper procedures for replacing the fuselage as well as other work on the planes.
