A year after playing Jackie Robinson in "42," Chadwick Boseman was back in biopic spring training. To become James Brown for the film "Get on Up," Boseman needed to rely on an entirely different skill set. But the preparation necessary to transform into a tireless performer like Brown — "the hardest working man in show business," after all — was oddly reminiscent of working out on the baseball diamond. "I was like, 'This is deja vu,'" says Boseman. "I'm waking up in the morning and lacing them up. Doesn't matter whether it's cleats or if it's leather shoes."
Hamas Leader Meshaal Demands End To Occupation
The leader of Hamas is demanding anew that Israel end its occupation of Gaza and the West Bank. Khaled Meshaal said in an interview broadcast Monday that he believes the world hasn't taken an even-handed view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Meshaal complained that Palestinians too frequently have to hear pleas for the security of the Jewish state, asking "why don't you give it to Palestinians?" Asked point-blank if he would recognize Israel's right to exist, Meshaal replied, "No."

Lloyds Bank Settles With US, UK Over Market Fixing
Lloyds Banking Group says it will pay $400 million to U.S. and British authorities to settle allegations it manipulated benchmark interest rates. The group said Monday it has settled with British and U.S. authorities over the rigging of the London Interbank Offered Rate or LIBOR, the latest financial institution to do so. The settlement also dealt with the manipulation of re-purchase agreements. Several banks have been implicated in the scandal to fix LIBOR, which is the rate used by banks to borrow from each other and indirectly affects the cost of loans in the wider economy.
Virgin America Files For IPO
Virgin America's next destination is Wall Street. The company, which was founded in 2004, licenses the Virgin brand name from the Virgin Group, founded by businessman Sir Richard Branson. The company said it in its filing, the Virgin Group's parent company, VX Holdings, has a 22.1 percent stake in Virgin America. Virgin America posted its first annual profit last year, earning $10.1 million. For the purpose of the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it could raise as much as $115 million, but that number is likely to change.

In Microsoft’s latest TV spot, the company stacks its voice assistant against Apple’s. The commercial features Siri on an iPhone 5S and Cortana on a low-end Lumia 635, where Microsoft’s voice assistant handles requests involving people and locations. Microsoft’s impressive voice assistant rolled out to Windows Phone 8 devices with the 8.1 update . Cortana is a smart mix of Siri and Google Now in that it sports the best of both. A rocket hit a fuel storage tank in a chaotic battle for Tripoli airport that has all but closed off international flights to Libya, leaving fire-fighters struggling to extinguish a giant conflagration. Foreign governments have looked on powerless as anarchy sweeps across the North African oil producer, three years after NATO bombardment helped topple dictator Muammar Gaddafi. They have urged nationals to leave Libya and have pulled diplomats out after two weeks of clashes among rival factions killed nearly 160 people in Tripoli and the eastern city of Benghazi.
Apple To Buy Swell For $30 Million, Per Report
In what appears to be part of a summer shopping spree, Apple is reported to be buying Swell, a radio app much like Pandora but focused on talk radio. According to Re/Code , the deal is worth approximately $30 million. Swell is a product out of Concept.io , a startup founded back in 2012 in Mountain View and led by CEO and co-founder G.D.“Ram” Ramkumar. Watching your behavior while you use the app combined with a touch of human curation allows the app to serve up content you’ll like with little input needed from you.
Zillow Buying Trulia For $3.5 Billion
The online real estate market moved towards consolidation a bit on Monday morning, as Zillow announced it was buying Trulia for $3.5 billion. In a statement announcing the all-stock transaction, Zillow said Trulia will maintain its distinct identity. Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff said in the release, "Consumers love using Zillow and Trulia to find vital information about homes, and connect with the best local real estate professionals." Both companies have been enormously successful in creating compelling consumer brands--and deep industry partnerships, but it's still early days in the world of real estate advertising on mobile and Web.
