I don't know all the details so I cannot judge, but... I feel that deleting my facebook account 2 years ago was indeed a very good decision!

  • Kira  •  Utica, New York  •  3 mths ago
Careful now, you don't want to be forced to apologize like this man.
    • ThoughtDeporting321GO 3 mths ago
lol yea right - their going to go after commentors once half the population removes their facebook :P
  • Denise  •  3 mths ago
What good does it do when your forced to apologize?? Also, Keep your personal business to yourselves!!!
    • Ella 3 mths ago
Its not personal if you go public.
    • Ganna 3 mths ago
The goal of this apology is to let the public (or whoever may have read this) know that the statements were false and not fair to the ex-wife. I am not saying they actually were, just trying to find the rationale for this order.
    • Keith 3 mths ago
Under the law he is innocent until proven guilty, she has to prove his statements were false. If she did then he got off lucky...

Freedom of speech people!!! We are slowly loosing our rights everyday...
    • A Yahoo! User 3 mths ago
Freedom of speech does not mean sayin' anything you feel like to the whole world. Every right comes with a responsibility.

  • Perfect One sucks  •  3 mths ago
So let me get this straight. The husband has to watch what he says/does in regards to the wife yet she (wife) is going on his Facebook page to snoop. Is there something wrong with this picture?
    • Buck 3 mths ago
Not with the picture, with the judge!
    • Perfect One sucks 3 mths ago
      @Buck... stop being a smart #$%$. that's what I meant... lol.

Legally, not sure what to say or think, since our WWW (tower of bable), allows us to blurb any momentary, important, or trivial thought that we have on our minds, there is no way to keep up with ever changing laws. However, a good rule of thumb, IMO, is, refrain from naming-names when posting your emotions on a website. For all we know, and he knows, she may have been swaying emotionally, subconsciously, more to his side of a disagreement, until this very public broadcast. That is just one tiny reason not to do it. (This may not have been the case, but still a valid point). Also, I am only middle age, so I remember before the internet, how fast times change. Even in those 'olden days', I learned (and told my loved ones..), the old saying is NOT true. "Sticks and Stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me". So untrue! Although, of course, do NOT misunderstand... I do NOT condone a literal stick or stone or physical violence. But, just for the sake of arguement, a bone will heal, and normally heal stronger at the break point. Words however, are a double edged sword. They can cause permanent, irreversable damage, linger and fester on BOTH parties, until BEYOND eternity. Just my thoughts.

As far as this particular case, not interested in if he is right or wrong. He is a grown man. Every action has a result. How it affects children would be my only personal concern.

To he!! with that. Take the jail time. With the jail overcrowding these days, they don't have room for people like you; you'll be out in a week.

When I went through my divorce there were certain things I couldn't do. According to the Joint Parenting Agreement I could not: Speak ill of the other parent in front of the children or in public, have a love interest spend the night, frustrate visitation, consume alcohol while the children were in my care. I had to keep my ex informed of doctor's visits and the children's academic status. This, I was told, was a standard agreement in the state of IL. There is no such thing as freedom of speech when going through a divorce. If you have an issue it is to go through mediation or the courts. It is not to be discussed on facebook and it shouldn't be discussed on facebook. Take into consideration your children. They need their parents to act like parents not 15 year old girls.

Any divorce is not easy, especially if there are children envolved. However I believe this man should be able to express his feelings about seeing his child as long as he doesn't slander the other party. Even with that for a judge to order him to make an apology on FB is wrong. I believe he has the constitutional right to express those feelings as long as there is no harm done to the opposing party. The judge has over stepped his bounds in this case.

I think that one post would have been enough but it should have been in his own words. The judge went to far
  • DanziaLee  •  Scranton, Pennsylvania  •  3 mths ago
Basically what precedent is being set here is that no matter what social setting you are in if you upset someone, you MUST apologize or go to jail, to me that sounds like something that would occur in a communist regime or dictatorship.
  • Sullivan  •  Naperville, Illinois  •  3 mths ago
I think people in this world are getting too high and mighty...especially in the court systems. I believe you can say what you want its a consitutional right. What happened to the consitution?
  • Nicole  •  Lima, Ohio  •  3 mths ago
Not sure what was said, but this seems most certainly to be a violation of his first amendment right.
  • k t  •  Kalamazoo, Michigan  •  3 mths ago
There is a reason we faught to have this country and the laws put in place to protect this counrty and the people. The taking away of our rights by one man who thinks he hold all the power is not one of the reasons
  • my say  •  Milford, Massachusetts  •  3 mths ago
I dont know what he said about his ex,but it seems to me,he wants to see his child more! Its unfortunate the two cannot talk & resolve the issue, out of frustration, and probably feeling alone with this issue,he reaches out for feedback, better than holding it all in,just hopefully he wasnt saying cruel things about her!Divorce can be so difficult for the children! Thats #1 we need to think about.
  • Tess  •  3 mths ago
They are only hurting their child. As a parent, divorced or not, it is your job to protect the child no matter how old from everything and your own childish actions.
  • Ciara  •  3 mths ago
I am a law major student. Understanding the laws might make more sense to people. A judge can order any type of punishment but it does not mean you have to do it unless you agree and don't appeal it. This would be under cruel and unusual punishment and could be called unconstitutional if he would have sent it to and appealet court.

Freedom of speech is our right! Whether it is morally wrong to voice personal business is a separate issue!
If a judge enforces punishment against a persons use of freedom of speech; then it will open up more opportunities to punish more people who use
freedom of speech. We have a constitution that allows us the right, lets not dissolve the value of the constitution.
