Comex Gold Falls On Profit-Taking After U.S. Jobs Data
Stronger-than-forecast growth in U.S. employment last month knocked gold futures lower Friday, with the data seen as an excuse by some traders to book profits on long positions. The market focused on the increased number of jobs reported by the Labor Department more-so than a small uptick in the jobless rate itself. Gold for April delivery was down $16.70, or 1.2% on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
2 American Ebola Patients Discharged From Hospital
Two American aid workers who were infected with the deadly Ebola virus have been discharged from an Atlanta hospital, where the scene Thursday was festive and celebratory — a stark contrast to the sterile, rushed atmosphere that marked their arrival nearly three weeks ago. 33-year-old Dr. Kent Brantly and 59-year-old Nancy Writebol were infected while working at a missionary clinic in the West African nation of Liberia. They were given the experimental drug Zmapp and flown back to the United States for treatment.
Russia Shutters 4 McDonald's Locations For 'Sanitary Violations'
The Russian government closed four McDonald's restaurants in Moscow on Wednesday for alleged sanitary violations, though many believe the move was designed to be a dig at the United States. Many western European nations, including the U.S., have periodically ramped up sanctions against Moscow for months now, following Russia's annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in March. While, Russia has responded with sanctions of its own. Sanitary inspections will reportedly continue at other McDonald's locations in Russia, where the restaurant chain operates 430 eateries across the nation. Fans may have discovered Blizzard's plans to memorialize actor Robin Williams in World of Warcraft by examining an upcoming expansion to the game. Gaming site Wowhead discovered three character models named Robin in the upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion for the massively multiplayer online game. The other models include a man and an older woman — a possible Mrs. Doubtfire reference — both named Robin. A petition requesting Blizzard to create a memorial in Williams' honor in WoW , one of the late actor's favorite games, was created shortly after his death, and received more than 10,000 signatures in 24 hours.
