Obama Awards Medal Of Honor To Two Vietnam Heroes
President Barack Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to two Vietnam veterans on Monday — one living and one who died in combat. According to the president, Army Spc. Donald P. But instead, Sloat picked up the grenade and held it close to his body, taking on the full impact of the explosion. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins was present to receive his award. Medal of Honor recommendations typically must be made within two years of the act of heroism, but Congress made an exception for Sloat and Adkins.
