Crude Oil Rises Slightly To Near $97 A Barrel
The price of oil inched up to around $97 a barrel Monday but gains were tempered by the prospect of a further reduction in U.S. central bank stimulus and stock market headwinds. By early afternoon in Europe, benchmark U.S. crude for March delivery was up 39 cents at $97.03 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil prices advanced despite slumping global equity markets and significant weakness among emerging-market currencies.

Early Facebook Investor: Twitter Is 'Horribly Mismanaged' And Run By Potheads
Talk about a backhanded compliment. Peter Thiel, a billionaire venture capitalist and cofounder of PayPal and Palantir, was asked for his thoughts about Twitter during an interview with CNBC on Tuesday. His response was that Twitter has "a lot of potential," but the team running it seems to be too high to realize that potential. Thiel said, "They have a lot of potential. It's a horribly mismanaged company. The people, you know, probably a lot of pot smoking going on there. But it's such a solid franchise that maybe it works even with all of that." Of course, Thiel may be more than a little biased here. He was the first big investor in Facebook, a competitor to Twitter, and he only just tweeted for the first time last week. That statement prompted some quick responses from former Twitter employees and at least one early investor.

Wall Street whistleblowers who provide U.S. prosecutors with evidence of financial fraud should get larger rewards for their efforts, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder plans to say in a speech on Wednesday, according to a Justice Department official. But the law caps rewards for potential whistleblowers in cases that do not involve fraud against government programs, and hurts the ability for prosecutors to get Wall Street executives to cooperate, Holder is expected to say.
