The Senate overwhelmingly approved a $46 billion plan to sharply increase federal law enforcement efforts at the U.S. border with Mexico, in a move aimed at winning bipartisan passage of a comprehensive immigration bill. According to local media reports, New England Patriots football player Aaron Hernandez was arrested, after he was questioned in connection with a shooting death near his home in North Attleborough, Massachusetts. Florida jurors saw the gun that neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman used to shoot unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin and graphic pictures of Martin's body as prosecutors pressed for Zimmerman's murder conviction.
