At Educational Tech Event, Obama Announces E-Book Initiative

US President Barack Obama was guest speaker at an event hosted by Of The People, a joint initiative by the White House and Discovery Education, held on April 30 in Washington, D.C.’s Anacostia Library. The President announced plans for an initiative that would make as many as 10,000 e-books available to young people from low-income families.

He also mentioned the possibility of returning to community organizing after his term.

Obama followed up with a question-and-answer session during which he said he was “into adventure stories,” including The Hardy Boys series, while growing up. Science books and classics took up his attention as a college student. The event, part of a series hosted by students and attended by White House staff, highlighted the importance of advancing technology resources in education as well as reading and literacy.
