European Union Latest News: Croatia Celebrates Its EU Membership

Wochit 1:01 mins

Fireworks are ready and foreign leaders are arriving as Croatia celebrated its entry into the European Union some 20 years after winning independence in a bloody civil war that shook the continent. In between agreements on how to resolve ailing banks and discussing how to tackle youth unemployment, EU leaders in Brussels found time to agree that Latvia can adopt the euro next January. The past week has seen a rare flurry of activity in the European Union. But the leaders from the 27 nations achieved little progress on fighting youth unemployment and speeding up plans for a so-called banking union.
