Floodwaters in Cagayan De Oro Swamps Cars, Forcing Drivers to Push Their Vehicles
A deluge of rain flooded the streets of Cagayan de Oro in the Philippines on Monday, January 16, swamping vehicles and leaving drivers soaking wet.
This footage shows an overhead view of the flooded street near Cagayan de Oro’s Mindanao University of Science and Technology.
In an email, the uploader told Storyful: “Around 3 in the afternoon of January 16, 2017, while working at the 8th floor of our office building, a heavy downpour started. We didn’t notice that the flood water started to rise because we’ve been very busy at work. Around 4:30, my officemate look out the window to check out if the rain has already stopped since he is ready to go home after his duty, but to his surprise flood water were already high and urge my other officemate to take their car into safety because of the flood. I then took my camera and started recording as the flood water rising up. (sic)”
The flooding was the result of a low pressure system that brought three hours of heavy rain to the northern coast of Mindano island, Rappler reported. A rain gauge near the Cagayan de Oro river registered seven inches (166.2 millimeters) of rainfall, according to City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department weather monitoring specialist Vergil Lago.
