Health Workers Fight Epidemic in Sierra Leone

The number of patients with Ebola in the West Africa’s worst hit countries surpassed 6,500 as September drew to a close, according to the World Health Organization. The deadly virus has killed over 3,400 people in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. This video, produced by children’s development organization Plan International, shows health workers treating patients with Ebola on the front lines of the epidemic.

The situation in Sierra Leone reached a breaking point in recent days when burial teams went on strike over hazard pay, causing the capital’s streets to be littered with dead bodies. The teams returned to work on October 8. Credit: Plan International/Neil Brandvold
