At least five representatives walked out of the House on Monday, June 13, as Speaker Paul Ryan called for a moment of silence for the victims of the Orlando mass shooting that left at least 50 people dead and another 53 injured. Democrat Jim Himes, who hails from Connecticut, the location of the Sandy Hook school shooting, was one of those who walked out and protested the silence in a speech on the floor.Himes also tweeted, "The Moments of Silence in the House have become an abomination. God will ask you, “How did you keep my children safe”? Silence." Adding, “I will not attend one more”Moment of Silence" on the Floor. Our silence does not honor the victims, it mocks them."
