gathered for a vigil in Chicago on Sunday, December 27, to remember a teen and woman who were fatally shot by police on Saturday during a domestic incident. Quintonio LeGrier, 19, and Bettie Jones, 55, who lived downstairs from LeGrier, were shot and killed, and police have said Jones was shot by accident. Jones was trying to intervene between LeGrier and police when she was shot, according to the Chicago Tribune.LeGrier and Jones’ families held a press conference with activists on their front porch on Sunday afternoon before the vigil. The shooting comes during a tense time in Chicago in the wake of the release of video showing police shooting Laquan McDonald in October 2014. Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with murder on November 24, one day before the video was released. The video shows Van Dyke shooting McDonald 16 times. In early December, the state’s attorney’s office elected to not charge a police officer who fatally shot Ronald Johnson as he ran away from police carrying a gun. Activists have been regularly protesting, calling for Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s resignation. They also have called for Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez to resign. Credit: YouTube/Joe Iosbaker">
