US Secretary of State John Kerry announced the US, Iran and five other countries agreed a deal in Vienna regarding Tehran’s nuclear programme. Speaking on Tuesday, July 14, after the meeting, Kerry said the agreement will cut Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium, cap it at 300 kg for the next 15 years and reduce the number of centrifuges it operates by two-thirds. Sanctions against Iran will be lifted as rewards.

The deal, struck after 20 months of negotiations, was a centrepiece of US President Barack Obama’s foreign policy agenda for his second term. Republican leaders and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have already voiced their opposition to the deal.
