So if he is receiving a charge for accepting stolen property then that must mean the bank is being charged with grand theft.

What about felony fraud for the bank..... customer makes a mistake it is a felony, bank makes a mistake and it is suppose to be forgiven..... I think not....

It amazes me how everyone seems to be blaming the bank. He knew he didn't put the money in there, therefore it is not his to spend. The guy should have gone to the bank with the mistake directly. Instead he counted on the slim chance that the mistake wouldn't be discovered and had himself a little spending spree.
Comments like maybe he was poor and didn't have enough for food are ignorant. I face that everyday and still I seem to know if things aren't yours you give them back.

He saw what wasn't his and took advantage of it. He's a liar and a cheat. Yes the bank made a mistake but he knew it wasn't his and an honest and honorable man would have gone to the bank to ask about the mistake. He deserves what he gets.

We are all human. He's a liar. Has he ever said he didn't have or receive the money? Theft...no. Stealing...umm//No Stupid Mistake Yes. I doubt you could really throw stones at him from your own glass house.

They said he's charged with receiving stolen property , who'd the bank steal it from? In this day and age it's hard to look a gift horse in the mouth, come to think of it the politicians aren't doing any time for stealing tax payer's money , matter of fact they don't repay it either.

Well, if the money was in his account then it was his money. This man cannot be blamed and should not be charged with a crime because the bank made a mistake. It is the bank's fault that they gave him all that money to spend. They just cannot charge him with breaking laws that he did not break because they made a mistake.

receiving stolen property? lol so the bank stole the money and then gave it away to him. sounds like a typical bank.

i say it's their fault so at most this kid should get some community service.

The bank screwed up. you put your trust in a bank when you deposit your money into it. It is their responsibility to ensure it is correctly taken care of. When the bank makes a mistake it's ok for them to say sorry about that, our bad..and get away with it...with out any accountability for their error. But god forbid a customer makes an error and expect all the penalties they can think up hit you like a ton of bricks.... In this case the bank really messed up and deposited him a "gift" if you will. and he's going to jail? did he steal the money? no. It's no different than finding a wad of cash on the ground, some one made the mistake of dropping it or was careless with it like the bank was careless. If nobody was around would you take the money? I know I would.. but should I go to jail for the fortune of finding it? The bank made an error they should of realized that Mr X is missing a lot of money and contacted the person who had the deposit made and then correct the problem... but no they kept silent and once the person who had the money was discovered the hammer came down... so does the bank employee who screwed up still have is job? I'm gonna say yes...he should be the one acountable for his error. And banks should have insurance for their mistakes.... I know I have to have insurance to drive and for health..

The bank should get their head out od their 6th point of contact and simply garnish the mans income tax refunds until it is paid. Did the bank even offer him a chance to sit down and discuss some way of paying the money back? How much did he have left? After all, paychecks will keep him in food hopefully. However if his income is low enough, the government will pay the largest share of the debt owed with his low income credit, etc. Is that not strange?
Put him in jail and you lose everything and pay to feed/house him.Are they also going to arrest all his family members that he helped? Perhaps they could help him arrange to pay it back. They were in receipt of stolen funds as well. Ignorance is not an excuse in these cases. This bank is just being an idiot. I suspect it is one person trying to power cover his butt.

As if banks are not made up of people, regular wives, sons, husbands, daughters, granparents, and relatives. Idiots think a bank is some arbitrary entity that operates on its own. The man is a thief; he knows it, you know it, and I know it!
