reported that a red tailed hawk had taken up residence on the grounds of the White House. Showing off its left wing and its right wing skills, it stalked and picked off some easy prey in a display of its predatory talon-t, deciding to feast on a squirrel rather than some of the politicians swanning around the area. The hawk was given a name fit for a president – Lincoln – by a class of fourth graders on June 5, before taking to the social airwaves with its own Twitter account. This video shows Lincoln in and around the grounds of the White House. The fourth graders who named the bird were the same ones who presented a bill to the New Hampshire state legislature in March to name the red-tailed hawk the state’s official raptor. With the 9 and 10 year olds and their teacher in the gallery, the legislators tore into the bill, with one saying a red-tailed hawk’s predatory nature made it a better mascot for Planned Parenthood than the state of New Hampshire, and defeated it 160-133.
