    • 12 bodies found in Mexican tourist town: officials

A dozen bodies -- including seven that were headless and mutilated -- were discovered over the weekend in western Mexico's seaside resort of Manzanillo, apparent victims of the country's epidemic of drug violence, local officials said. It was a shocking turn of events for an area popular with American and other foreign tourists, which until now had largely been spared from the bloody drug wars wracking other parts of Mexico. Seven bodies were found early Saturday in an abandoned taxi on the road from Manzanillo to the town of Cihuatlan.

Following the march in New York City, protesters left behind thousands of signs around Fifth Avenue near Trump Tower. • Crumbling lira pressures Turkish retailers as economy slows

By Ceyda Caglayan ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish businessman Tekin Acar had contracts to open branches of his leading cosmetics chain in ten new shopping malls this year. A few days ago he canceled nine of them after sharp falls in the lira meant he would struggle to afford the rents. Turkey's currency has lost around a quarter of its value since the middle of last year, causing havoc for retailers selling imported goods or paying rent pegged to the U.S. dollar.

    • Chelsea Clinton shuts down trolls who targeted Barron Trump

Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton has spoken out in defence of Barron Trump, the US president's youngest son, after trolls targeted him with cruel memes online during the inauguration.  In a Facebook post Chelsea, who spent much of her teenage years in the spotlight while her dad Bill Clinton was president, said the 10-year-old "deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid".  But she also turned political: "Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids". Criticism of Barron's facial expressions and posture during the inauguration was widespread on social media, with people mocking him and calling him out for looking bored.  A Saturday Night Live writer even tweeted: "Barron will be this country's first homeschool shooter". The tweet was later deleted.  People on Facebook praised Chelsea for defending Barron while also expressing her political ideas:  BONUS: Donald Trump's inauguration address included a Bane quote ›

    • White House vows to fight media 'tooth and nail' over Trump coverage

By Doina Chiacu and Jason Lange WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House vowed on Sunday to fight the news media "tooth and nail" over what it sees as unfair attacks, with a top adviser saying the Trump administration had presented "alternative facts" to counter low inauguration crowd estimates. On his first full day as president, Trump said he had a "running war" with the media and accused journalists of underestimating the number of people who turned out Friday for his swearing-in. White House officials made clear no truce was on the horizon on Sunday in television interviews that set a much harsher tone in the traditionally adversarial relationship between the White House and the press corps.

    • 'Droneboarding' takes off in Latvia

Two snowboarders gripping them glide across the ice, pulled along by the drone before performing a series of high-speed turns and slides. The drone prototype is the work of Latvian specialists Aerones and they are putting their invention through its paces, with up to four snowboarders being dragged across the ice at a time. "It seems to be a successful test," says Janis Putrams, 35, wearing a broad grin, not least because as Aerones CEO he is in charge of the enormous remote control unit used to steer the drone's flight.

    • China to prosecute former Tianjin mayor for suspected graft

China will prosecute the former mayor of the northern city of Tianjin for suspected graft, the state prosecutor said on Sunday, taking a step that will almost certainly result in his conviction. Dozens of senior people have been investigated or jailed since President Xi Jinping assumed power four years ago, vowing to root out corruption, warning, like others before, that the problem threatens the Communist Party's grip on power. The party announced in September the investigation into Huang Xingguo, who had been mayor of the important port city - about an hour from Beijing - since 2008.

    • Trump's inaugural ball cake looked suspiciously like Obama's from 2013

Looks like we have a copy-cake on our hands. Baker and Food Network personality Duff Goldman created a cake for President Obama's "Commander-in-Chief" inaugural ball in 2013. On Friday, however, he noticed a very similar cake in the news — the cake at one of Donald Trump's inaugural balls. SEE ALSO: How Trump's inauguration concert compared to Obama's The cake on the left is the one I made for President Obama's inauguration 4 years ago. The one on the right is Trumps. I didn't make it. 樂 pic.twitter.com/qJXpCfPhii — Duff Goldman (@Duff_Goldman) January 21, 2017 Turns out, the resemblance wasn't a coincidence. According to Tiffany MacIsaac of Buttercream Bakeshop, the order she received from Trump's team requested an exact replica of Goldman's 2013 creation.  "Duff Goldman originally created this for Obama's inauguration 4 years ago," she wrote on Instagram, "and this years committee commissioned us to re-create it." But — hold up — the D.C. bakeshop isn't keeping the profits from the commission. "Best part is all the profits are being donated to @humanrightscampaign, one of our favorite charities who we have loved working with over the years," she continued. A photo posted by Buttercream Bakeshop (@bttrcrmbakeshop) on Jan 21, 2017 at 7:35am PST FYI, the Trump cake is mostly made of Styrofoam — it's intended primarily to be a display item. But it's a good lookin' cake nonetheless. That Obama team had great taste, huh? Remembering a fantastic cake I made is awesome and the chef that re-created it for @POTUS Trump did a fantastic job. Group hug, y'all.  — Duff Goldman (@Duff_Goldman) January 21, 2017 BONUS: Obama 'Hope' artist has a new set of powerful posters
