Coke went thru pretty much the same thing years ago. By the time the product leaves the processing plant enough time has lapsed so if there was anything in the can/bottle other than what was supposed to, be there wasn't any trace. Hey if you have too much acid caked on your battery cables try pouring coke or pepsi on it and poof the acid goes away. Doesn't stop me from drinking coke or pepsi. Just like smoking causes lung cancer but it doesn't stop people from smoking.
