The Baltimore Sun. Firefighters responded to 144 vehicle fires and 15 building fires. Maryland’s National Guard was activated and was patrolling the Inner Harbor area. The mayor imposed a city-wide curfew of 10pm to 5am. There was a large gathering of protesters in the neighborhood where the unrest was centered, and police were on hand. Others also were gathering to clean up the neighborhood and fix damaged businesses. The unrest happened the same day Freddie Gray’s funeral. Gray died from injuries that occurred while he was in police custody, and there have been protests since then. The riots started after rumors of a “purge,” based on the movie that makes crime legal, would take place at the Mondawmin Mall.
