U.S. Senator Marco Rubio chose a symbolic location to declare himself a candidate for the presidency on Monday, April 13 — Miami’s Freedom Tower, known for decades as the place where tens of thousands of Cuban immigrants sought medical, dental and citizenship help. Rubio is the son of Cuban immigrants; his parents became permanent US residents in 1956.

Not everyone was impressed by the choice of Rubio’s venue, however. “It’s ironic Sen. Rubio choosing Freedom Tower to announce he is running for president when he hasn’t taken a clear stand on what he wants to do about immigration reform,” Saul Aleman, a 22-year-old Mexican-American, told Fox News Latino.
