Russia is the new eldorado for car makers
SUGGESTED SCRIPT:Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi didn’t cut any corners when they teamed up to open this factory in 2010, 200km from Moscow;550 millions euros of investment and 130 thousand square metres.SOUNDBITE 1 Jean-Christophe Marchal General Director of the PCMA Rus (English, 10 secs):“We are 1,700 people and we plan to hire 1,000 more people in order to reach the target we have, which is 125,000 cars per year."Last year PSA Peugeot Citroen recorded 35 percent growth in Russia- But they’re not alone… Heading up the pack is Renault who set up a factory in Moscow in 2005. Since then sales have accelerated no end, last year they were up 61 percent with 155 thousand cars produced.Renault is now the second most popular brand in the Russian market, and first choice when it comes to foreign manufacturers. With less than one in three Russian’s owning a car, there’s a large market to exploit, as manufacturers at Moscow's motor show know all too well.SOUNDBITE 2 - Bernd Ludwig Schantz, CEO, PSA Peugeot Citroen Russia, Ukraine and CIS (French, 10sec):“I would say that today, Russia is a bit like Peru. It’s a market which has taken off and is developing strongly-it’s certainly one of the world’s fastest growing markets.”In addition to Europe's manufacturers, American giant General Motors recently announced an investment of a billion dollars in its Russian production line. Europe’s economic crisis seems a far cry from the glamorous floors of the motor show.SOUNDBITE 3 - Bruno Ancelin, Operational Director for Renault Eurasia (French, 10sec):"This is clearly a market that is compensating for the difficulties faced by all manufacturers in Western Europe, because of the economic situation."With annual growth of 4 percent, car manufacturers in Russia are very much in the driving seat, with what looks like a clear road ahead of them.-----------------------------------------------------------SHOTLISTKALOUGA, RUSSIA, 28 AUGUST 2012.
