Same-sex Marriage Breaking News: Appeals Court Lifts Hold on Calif. Gay Marriages

by Wochit 1:01 mins

A federal appeals court says it is lifting its freeze on same-sex marriages in California and the state is required to issue licenses to gay couples starting immediately. As the dust settled on two major Supreme Court rulings this week that advanced gay marriage, a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll showed that while about a third of Americans oppose the decisions, a majority are either in favor or had no strong opinion. Backed by rainbow flags and confetti, thousands celebrated in California's streets after U.S. Supreme Court rulings brought major advances for gay marriage proponents in the state and across the country. Though wedding bells may be weeks away, same-sex couples and their supporters filled city blocks of San Francisco and West Hollywood to savor the long-awaited decisions as thumping music resounded.
