Tens of thousands of people descended upon the streets of Prague on Monday, November 17, to mark the 25th anniversary of the country’s Velvet Revolution, the peaceful overthrow of Czechoslovakia’s communist regime. Local news reports said that events were planned in key places associated with the revolution, including Wenceslas Square and Národní třída (National Avenue), the central street where student protests sparked the revolution in 1989.
