Toyota Working to Replace Takata Airbag Inflators Despite Tight Supplies

Toyota's U.S. Chief Bob Carter says roughly 700,000 of its cars have been affected by the Takata airbag recall. Carter says Toyota started replacing the airbag inflators in its 2002-2004 Corollas back in 2013 in regions where high humidity caused the passenger side airbags to malfunction. Carter says, 'We have a restricted supply of inflators so we're working to get them into those high-humidity areas first.' Carter says Toyota is working with Takata and all of its suppliers to procure high quality inflators. Separately, Carter said, Toyota's first fuel cell car, Mirai, will go on sale in 2015 with a price tag of $57,000. But, Carter says that while he sees hydrogen fuel cells as the future, Toyota is launching the Mirai in limited areas. The Mirai will first be available exclusively in California and with a possible expanison from Boston to New York corridor. TheStreet's Ruben Ramirez reports from Los Angeles.
