Tropical Storm Fay struck the southeast coast of Bermuda on October 12, with heavy rain and strong winds recorded at 70mph (110km/h). A hurricane watch and tropical storm watch began on October 11, when hurricane conditions were said to have been a possibility.

The storm passed without reaching hurricane status, but accelerating winds uprooted trees and power poles, resulting in thousands of power cuts, according to reports
