I would like to reach out to the people who believe in helping our own. If there is someone reading this that knows how to start a legitimate fund to help this girl and her family, let's do it ! We as a nation are giving and compassionate for others and our own,if 100 people each pledge just $10.00 each towards this family who is in need, we can make a huge positive difference. I'll waiting for a sincere reply, debit card in hand :)

Why don't you do it yourself? Why wait for someone else?

That's what's wrong with the Untied States. Everyone thinks that "someone should do something about it". Well, those that say that should be the ones doing something about it.

So you, get in touch with the shelter, you setup an account in their name, and you drive an online pledge for people to donate directly to the account.

      It all starts with YOU!

@Brickell Princess: At least Zimm is trying to take the first steps. You, on the other hand, only know how to blame. Some princess!

She did never asked for a handout!. She is working hard at school and entered a cotest with a price IF she wins. She has already won in my mind!. She has the right attitude. Show some compassion. It could be you someday in her shoes. How many unmotivated, spoiled teenagers do you know that do not want to do anything with themselves and think they deserve everything!. She is talented! and will go places!

You go girl, you see if you want something badly enough you will try with all your might to succeed at it. Because you are poor doesnot mean you don't have the will or the ability to succeed at something. We are all human being with the knowledge to move forward or stay bad, that are our choices.

Kiss My Taxes I could slap[ you silly. She is just the opposite of what you said. She wansts to work hard to make something of herself and yes make money. She is NOT looking to be a freeloader. I saw this on the news never mentioned the govenerment owing her or rich people need to pay more for me. She will be paying her share of taxes one day.

It is always great to hear stories concerning young people who
like this young girl. I am so sick and tired of all those spoiled
brat kids / teenagers who have been given every little thing that
they have ever wanted or "pouted" about.from their parents.
And here we have a story of a young girl who instead of
complaining about her situation, she is taking steps to
improve her education etc. by entering this competition.
It also shows how wrong some of the very few snooty and
self righteous conservative wanna be people are when they
say that "all" poor people or people who are not from rich
families are "lazy." I hope that this dear young girl beats all
the snooty kids who may have entered in this competition.
And when she finishes her education, I hope that she gets
the kind of job where she will be able to be of service to
people in an area of employment that she greatly enjoys!

I am unable to watch this video, yahoo acting up! But just from the headlines, I know this is one inspiring young lady! Now, if only more teens in America focused on studies more instead of texting/sex/drugs/iphones/TV/FB etc, imagine what a phenomenal country this would be!

i can't see the video too that's yahoo

Congrats to this young lady. I wish her the best and I'm sure she'll appreciate whatever success she achieves in life.

Embrace this young lady and help her to get a foothold. We come from all walks and positions in life. She has the aptitude and will do the rest herself if help is given now. Alot of us come from humble beginnings and I hope someone with some money can help her. Had I the $, I would.

Kudos to you sweetheart!! I wish there were more motivated teens out there using their brains instead of trying to be on MTV's Teen Mom show:-\

Very nice story. Yahoo, you should try putting more of these on your News page. Hopefully this opportunity, win or lose, will be a springboard for her to a better life. Any 1%ers out there willing to fund a scholarship for her? If you don't want to pay any more in taxes, at least help someone truly in need. I'll be contributing.
