World Food Programme Chief Visits Iraq

World Food Programme (WFP) chief Ertharin Cousin visited Iraq on June 24 and met with people fleeing Mosul at a transit camp in Kalak, situated between Mosul and Arbil.

This video from the WFP shows relief items being distributed to people who fled the fighting in Mosul. The WFP states they are struggling to find food, shelter and water in the 45 degree celsius heat.

Around 500,000 people have reportedly fled the fighting in Mosul. Cousin said, “The challenge is that we do not have the necessary resources to provide the assistance that is required for a sustained period of time.” Credit: World Food Programme
