Villa Della Pace: A Luxurious Marin County Retreat

Marin County, California, is home to some of fanciest homes in the country. Nestled in the hills overlooking the resplendent Ross Valley is Villa Della Pace, a getaway owned by San Francisco Giants pitcher Barry Zito. After receiving his massive seven-year, $123 million contract, Zito opted to splash a little cash on his Kent Woodlands villa. Citing a long commute, Zito then decided to put his home on the market, much to the delight of those who enjoy fine real estate, even if it is beyond the price range of mere mortals.

The Mediterranean villa is situated on 2 and a quarter acres on a remote hillside above the Kent Woodlands neighborhood of Marin County. The over 7,000-square-foot home boasts four beds and five and a half baths. Despite being located in a relatively populated area, the home is sited at the end of a private drive, offering views in every direction of untouched natural beauty. In one direction, the iconic Mount Tamalpais is visible, while the diametrically opposite view is of Phoenix Lake. While Villa Della Pace's setting is something to appreciate, the home itself is stunning, as well.

The custom-built home was completed in 2002 with a largely open-concept feel. The villa features plaster walls, limestone floors, and walnut hardwood floors throughout. The primary living area is opening and inviting, with a massive double-style living room, both traditional and with a more club-like feel. The dining room is elegantly paired with the bar area and chef's kitchen, replete with granite galore and stainless-steel appliances.

The master suite features a fireplace constructed entirely of imported limestone. The en-suite bath has granite countertops and a custom stone shower. The lower level of the home has a massive family room with a pair of en-suite bedrooms. The wine cellar is also located on the lower level, with its own tasting bar.

The guest house was finished in 2012 as an addition above the three-car garage. The one-bed, one-bath house is styled similarly to the main house and has its own kitchen and custom fireplace.

Villa Della Pace has received numerous awards since its completion, including mentions in the 17th anniversary edition of the duPont Registry. The home was featured in the Top 10 Views & Vistas, as well as the Top 10 Living Rooms. The home was most recently listed at $11.495 million, but it's currently off the market. The price may be staggering, but for those who can afford it, Villa Della Pace has everything an estate owner could desire.
