Village Roadshow Inks Five-Picture Deal With China’s Beijing Hairun Pictures
Village Roadshow Asia has signed a five-picture deal with China’s Beijing Hairun Pictures that will include a feature film on former NBA player Stephon Marbury’s experiences playing in the Middle Kingdom.
The deal, described as a “a long-term partnership in the joint development, financing, production and distribution of feature films,” was announced today by Village Roadshow Pictures Asia CEO Ellen Eliasoph and Liu Yanming, chairman of Hairun Media & Entertainment Group at the Beijing International Film Festival.
Mountain Cry, the first project and which debuted as a pitch at last year’s Beijing fest, is currently in post. The other projects are IPO, a contemporary drama about China’s financial markets; a Chinese remake of the Korean thriller Hide And Seek; a remake of an unnamed Hollywood police thriller as well as the Marbury project, My Other Home.
Village Roadshow Pictures Asia was launched in 2011 to make locally targeted films for the Chinese market. Hairun Pictures, launched in 2009, is the film arm of Hairun Media, one of China’s most prolific TV producers.
