    Virgin Atlantic Launches Flight Status Bot on Twitter

    Virgin Atlantic has launched a Twitter bot that lets you quickly check your flight status on the microblogging service.

    To use the feature, you can send a tweet to @VAAInfo with your flight number and departure in the format "VSXX DDMM."

    For instance, if you were on flight four leaving on Nov. 22, you would tweet "@VAAInfo VS4 2211," and the bot would tweet back something like, "@you – Hello gorgeous! The @VirginAtlantic VS4/22Nov is leaving New York JFK at 18:00 & landing in London LHR at 06:20/23Nov."

    Those with multi-leg journeys are asked to add the airport code of their most recent departure city, i.e. "@VAAInfo VS20 1503 HKG."

    Like The Guardian's Twitter search bot, Virgin's flight status checker helps Twitter users get the information they need faster. It should also help Virgin Atlantic's customer service team stem the tide of Twitter-based queries about flight statuses throughout the day, Fergus Boyd, head of ecommerce at Virgin Atlantic, noted in an e-mailed statement.
