Volume Booster Pro review

Volume Booster Pro ups the volume, but only if you have good speakers in your device to begin with. You'll like its selective boosting options but not its ads, nor the many permissions it requires.

Pros

Does boost your device: It may not be a 40 plus percent boost, as Volume Booster Pro claims, but it's certainly a noticeable one that can make a difference when you're outdoors or in a crowd. Based on our tests, we can say that the better the speakers on your device, the louder the boost.

Offers selective volume boosting: Rather than boosting the overall volume of your device like other similar sound enhancers, this app enables you to choose what to boost: the alarm, music, notifications, ringer, system alert, and voice call volume -- only some or all of them.

Can't be more straightforward: The basic UI features a big boost button and six other toggles for selective boosting. You won't find an easier-to-use app on Google Play.

Cons

Requires too many permissions: Why should a volume booster require your profile data, location, or browsing history and bookmarks?

Bombards you with ads: While using this app you have to tolerate fullscreen ads that pop up constantly as well as a flickering banner at the bottom of the screen. Also included on the left-hand side of the interface is a Web search sidebar featuring a few promoted apps, but the search can actually be a useful extra feature.

Bottom Line

In our tests, Volume Booster Pro worked well enough, but the amount of boosting it offers likely varies from device to device. It's not nearly as effective on an old smartphone with bad speakers as on a newer device. If you have a new device and would like the option to boost only certain sounds -- and aren't easily disgusted by ads -- then this app is worth downloading.
