Hydroponics offers hungry people an efficient and reliable alternative to cultivate their own food and become self-sustaining, according to Martin Wiggett, founder and president of Stealth Hydroponics, Inc.

In October 2005 Wiggett began his Michigan-based Stealth Hydroponics in the basement of his home as a way to grow kitchen herbs despite the freezing January temperatures. He subsequently pioneered the innovative Bubbleponics™ and Oxyponics® feeding systems for growing plants using hydroponic methods.
Wiggett, who is a trained electrical engineer originally from Cape Town, South Africa, said that hydroponics continues to grow in popularity because it works well in both cold and hot climates, and even in areas where water is a precious commodity.
As a socially conscious business, Stealth Hydro gives back to the community in a number of different ways. It supports “Growing Hope”, an organization in Ypsilanti, MI that helps people improve their lives through its gardening programs and access to healthy foods. In addition, Stealth Hydro contributes to “Hydro for Hunger”, which encourages communities to become self-sufficient using fundamental hydroponic growing techniques. Stealth Hydro has earmarked a percentage of revenues from certain products to Hydro for Hunger, and it donates the proceeds of snacks and candy sold in its store.
Wiggett and his wife, Julie, have a personal connection to the cause of reducing world hunger. They and many of their employees assist in a local soup kitchen in Jackson, MI and they collect food for a local food pantry.
Stealth Hydro recently decided to build on its commitment to fight world hunger by working through “FOOD FOR THE POOR (FFP)”, the third-largest international relief and development charity in the U.S. FFP works in 17 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America, including the operation of several hydroponic farms. The organization provides food, housing, health care, education, water projects, emergency relief and micro-enterprise assistance.
“This association with FPP seems like the perfect next step in our work to reduce hunger: locally, state wide, nationally and now internationally,” Wiggett says.
Stealth Hydro plans to donate $1 for every Bubbleponics™ complete system sold and $1 from every Oxyponics ® system, to FFP. The organization can feed a family of four for $12 a month and Stealth Hydro’s contribution will initially sustain a family of four for an entire year.Wiggett pledges that “this is just the beginning of our long-term commitment to FPP, one that we will continue to nurture over time.”
