Warren: Brown Voted Against Working Families
Elizabeth Warren had some tough words for her Senate opponent on Friday, saying that Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., has voted against working families and acted as Wall Street’s favorite son.
Citing an award from Forbes magazine for his support of Wall Street, the Democratic Senate candidate said that Brown and his Republican colleagues will answer for their records come November. On the award, she joked, “I don’t think I even got nominated for that one. I’m not even in their top-100 on that.”
“All I can do is look at how he voted,” she said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “He has voted to protect the richest and most powerful among us. And he has voted against working families.”
One of the biggest issues that people are concerned about, she said, is how to pay for college education. Warren, a former Harvard professor, said that the growing costs of education resonate for both students and parents.
“It's kids ... who worked hard, they played by the rules, they went to college. They loaded up debt. And now they can't get a job,” she said. “They are moving back in with mom and dad. And they just see a world in which they thought, ‘I'm going to graduate from college, and my world is going to expand. There's going to be more opportunity.' And instead, they're seeing a world in which opportunities seem limited, and they have now got this debt load.”
She also shared a general optimism about the race, saying that she has enjoyed campaigning.
“You meet people, and you shake hands. And people will tell you something. And mostly it's you're glad to hear from people. And then somebody says something that's like a spear to the heart,” she said.
