Watch: HBO Teases ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5, ‘Westworld’
HBO had quite a year in 2014. And by the looks of its upcoming slate, 2015 will be even bigger, with “Game of Thrones” season five, a second installment of “True Detective” and the reimagining of “Westworld” among the programming highlights on the premium cabler’s roster for the new year.
The network recently released its 2014 “Yearender” video, which highlights the channel’s milestones from the past year and looks ahead to next season’s lineup.
The 2015 portion of the video includes previews of upcoming seasons of already-popular shows such as “Girls” and “Game of Thrones,” in addition to a first look at Hugh Laurie’s forthcoming appearance on “Veep.”
In 2015 the network will usher in a robust slate of new programming, which includes “Togetherness,” a series created by Jay and Mark Duplass; the return of filmmaker competition “Project Greenlight” (after its past season aired on Bravo) with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon; dark geopolitical comedy series “The Brink,” starring Tim Robbins and Jack Black; “Westworld,” a sci-fi series based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name starring Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden and Evan Rachel Wood; and Dwayne Johnson-starrer “Ballers,” a series about the business side of professional sports. Also included in the promo is a clip of Queen Latifah as blues singer Bessie Smith in HBO Films’ biopic “Bessie.”
Among the footage from HBO’s 2014 reel are moments from the lauded final season of “Boardwalk Empire,” along with clips from the network’s hit series, including “Girls,” “Game of Thrones,” “True Blood” and “The Newsroom.” HBO also debuted several successful new shows over the past 12 months, including “Silicon Valley,” “The Leftovers” and “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.”
Footage from HBO’s musical events also made the cut, featuring Beyonce and Jay Z’s “On the Run Tour” and the Foo Fighters’ “Sonic Highways” docuseries. Scenes from HBO Films’ adaptation of AIDS drama “The Normal Heart,” which is nominated for three Golden Globes, are included as well.
