Watch This iPhone 5 Concept Stretch Into an iPad Mini

With so much speculation surrounding the next-generation iPhone event, the team at Aatma Studio has once again whipped together a stunning concept video, from fingerprint scanning for enhanced security to rubberband electronics which enables the device to stretch like a scrunchie.

The video begins with the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5 concept sitting next to each other. In addition to having a blue battery icon and a charger indicating that the iPhone 5 is being charged wirelessly, we immediately notice that a fingerprint is needed to enter the home screen. There is also five rows of apps instead of the traditional four, and there is a new notification center that includes a user’s Instagram updates along with Siri Message Center. The concept reveals a more versatile and smarter Siri.

Siri would have periodically communicated with other smart-machines or connected devices (a connected refrigerator for example), gathered information from the other device and voices out relevant updates to the user within the pull-down notification.

But perhaps the most fascinating feature is that the iPhone becomes an iPad mini when you pinch to zoom.

"Stretchable or Rubberband electronics is a relatively new concept, and still in its infancy," Pramod Modi Shantharam, CEO and animation director at Aatma Studio, told Mashable. "We've read that researchers have developed materials that can stretch up to 200% of their original size, with a combination of a porous polymer and liquid metal. We wanted to incorporate this into our concept."

Aatma Studio is known for creating innovative concepts for Apple products. In March, the company unveiled a video that toyed with a 3D multiplayer hologram for gaming, a feature that allows a movie to be displayed across two connected iPad screens at once and a 2560 x 1140 resolution edge-to-edge retina display, which gives the illusion of a larger visual screen area. Meanwhile, the company in April launched a password protection iPhone concept that blows up when it's been stolen.

What do you think of the concept? Would you buy a phone that is stretchable? Let us know in the comments.

Taller, Thinner Display

It's been long rumored that the size of the iPhone 5 screen will be larger than the current iPhone screens. Many suspect it will be about 4 inches diagonally compared to the existing 3.5-inch display. Meanwhile, according to The Wall Street Journal, the iPhone 5 will tout a thinner screen, which would allow the device to be lighter in weight than ever before.
