Watch: Michael Fassbender Gets Medieval In ‘Macbeth’

Witch please! The latest trailer release for Justin Kurzel’s rough and tumble Shakespearean adaptation of Macbeth highlights once again just how much this is not your father’s Scottish play. Featuring a typically committed performance from Michael Fassbender as the doomed warrior-turned-king, Macbeth is filled with breathtaking battles. Already the film looks set to battle it out with Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu’s The Revenant for best-looking film of the year. Marion Cotillard portrays the grieving, scheming Lady Macbeth. The film received its world premiere at Cannes, receiving critical acclaim for its boldness.

Jacob Koskoff, Michael Lesslie and Todd Louiso wrote the script with Laura Hastings-Smith producing alongside See-Saw’s Iain Canning and Emile Sherman. The Weinstein Co. is releasing the film domestically.

Fassbender, Kurzel and Lesslie are re-uniting to work on Assassin’s Creed, the New Regency live-action adaptation of the Ubisoft video game.
