What to Watch Tonight: HBO's Kurt Cobain Documentary, CBS's Dave Letterman Retrospective, and the Season Finale of Gotham

What to watch on Monday, May 4...

SEASON 1 FINALE, 8pm, Fox
Gotham
Gotham's gang war comes to a head in "All Happy Families Are Alike," with Fish squaring off against Penguin and Maroni. Meanwhile, events bring Barbara and Leslie together, and Bruce scours Wayne Manor for anything his father may have left behind, like clues or secret entrances to enormous subterranean lairs.

8pm, The CW
The Originals
His siblings' betrayal stokes Klaus's already healthy vengeful side in "Fire With Fire." As the other Mikaelsons proceed with their plan to defeat Dahlia, Hayley and Jackson must navigate a flooded bayou to reach safety, and Davina is tempted by a chance to bring back Kol (Daniel Sharman-era, of course).

8pm, CBS
2 Broke Girls
Nash's mother arrives from Ireland in "And the Minor Problem," throwing a wrench into Max and Caroline's plans for his modeling career.

DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE, 9pm, HBO
Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck
This authorized profile of the Nirvana frontman and Generation X icon features interviews, never before seen footage, and material drawn from Cobain's personal and family archives. The film was directed by Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays in the Picture) and executive produced by Frances Bean Cobain.

9pm, The CW
Jane the Virgin
"Chapter Twenty-One" finds Jane nervous to attend her five-year high school reunion, though probably not because she's lacking for recent life developments to share. Elsewhere, Rogelio's behavior puzzles Xo, Petra takes action after Rafael informs her of Jane's custody request, and Michael invites Jane to his commendation ceremony.

9pm, Fox
The Following
The team traces a lead to a serial killer with ties to Theo, who is busy trying to go on the lam with Penny. Meanwhile in "Demons," recent events send Ryan on a downward spiral, because apparently there's no rock bottom that guy can't drill the heck through.

9pm, A&E
Bates Motel
Norman spends a day with an unexpected visitor in "Crazy," and my money is on that visitor being a tiny green space alien that only Norman can see. In other pursuits, Norma scrambles to keep some secrets secret, and Caleb helps Dylan with a good deed that does not go unpunished.

9:30pm, CBS
David Letterman: A Life on Television
Ray Romano hosts this retrospective of the late-night legend's TV career, from his humble beginnings as a local Indiana weatherman to his more than three decades behind the desks of Late Night on NBC and The Late Show on CBS. Letterman's final outing as host of the latter is scheduled for May 20.

10pm, AMC
TURN: Washington's Spies
Abe makes one more effort to recruit a spy in New York in "Sealed Fate," but honestly, if the promise of unlimited access to Gen. Washington's private ice cream and Cheetos stash hasn't swayed anyone, I'm not sure what other cards are left to play. Meanwhile, Ben must root out a double agent.

10pm, ABC
Castle
In "Dead From New York," the impresario of long-running sketch comedy show Saturday Night Tonight is slain. C'mon, Castle writers, at that point you might as well just name the character "Schmorne Schmichaels." Will the case intrude on the performance of actually-for-real-appearing musical guest Carly Rae Jepsen?

10pm, NBC
The Night Shift
And speaking of recording artists popping up in unlikely places, Trace Adkins drops by "Moving On" as TC's group therapy pleader, who surprises the gang with a special greeting from First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. In less star-studded affairs, Jordan and Paul treat a nine-year-old boy with an intense fever and an even more intense mother, while Topher mulls taking an emergency trip overseas to help a friend.

10pm, A&E
The Returned
Helen sets her diabolical plot in motion in her eponymous episode, while Peter makes a surprising announcement and Chloe fends off a new threat.

10pm, PBS
Independent Lens
Kuma Hina tells the story of Hina Wong-Kalu, a transgender native Hawaiian teacher, examining her marriage, her role as cultural director of a Honolulu school, and her mentorship of a young student.
