New ways to get in shape with gadgets: Runtastic's new tracking gear

Runtastic's new GPS watch and heart rate monitor chest strap

If you're a fan of the trendy running app Runtastic, you may want to check out the brand's new devices: a GPS-enabled pulse watch and heart rate chest strap that, of course, conveniently sync to the app itself.

This past week the company announced its new gear, available for iOS devices, Android, BlackBerry, Windows devices, and more. The GPS watch tracks heart rate data and location and doesn't require a smartphone. The chest strap tracks heart rate data and wirelessly transmits it to a tiny receiver peripheral that plugs into your smartphone.

Another new device on the market is the Nike+ FuelBand, which teams up with a free iPhone app or the Nike+ website to collect and compile information about your daily activity levels. The wristband tracks your every movement while the iPhone app and website provide you with the encouragement and motivation you need to set and reach fitness goals.

Rival running app RunKeeper recently integrated with Garmin and other GPS fitness devices, such as watches and heart-rate monitors in their latest move to dominate the running app category. Buy one of these devices and you can import activities and view your fitness data using the RunKeeper dashboard.

Other fitness and wellness tracking devices on the market include Fitbit, Adidas MiCoach, Pacer, DirectLife Activity Monitor, Affectiva Q Sensor, Basis, and Digifit.
