Wednesday deadline in Northwestern athletes case
WASHINGTON (AP) — Northwestern University faces a Wednesday deadline to appeal a ruling by the Chicago-region director of the National Labor Relations Board that its football players are employees of the school and therefore entitled to unionize.
Northwestern, based in Evanston, Ill., has strongly disputed the ruling and has said it would file such an appeal.
The full NLRB has yet to weigh in on the finding.
An April 25 vote is scheduled for the Northwestern athletes to decide whether they want to form such a union, according to Ramogi Huma, president of the College Athletes Players Association.
Earlier this month, Huma and former Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter came to Washington, D.C., to try to drum up support by lobbying members of Congress.
