Wendell Pierce loses Baton Rouge home to flooding

Thousands of homes were destroyed in the deadly flooding in southern Louisiana over the weekend.

Actor Wendell Pierce’s was one of them.

“I lost my house,” an emotional Pierce told TMZ on Monday at Los Angeles International Airport after returning from Baton Rouge.

The 52-year-old star of “The Wire” and “Treme” — who played an active role in rebuilding New Orleans after his parents’ home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina — revealed the news on Twitter.

“My neighbors & I have flooded in Baton Rouge,” Pierce tweeted on Sunday. “I am reminded of the generosity given to my family during Katrina. Now we will care for you.”

Pierce also tweeted the phone numbers for the Red Cross and Baton Rouge Food Bank in response to a follower who wanted to help.

The actor then quoted from his 2015 post-Katrina book, “The Wind in the Reeds: A Storm, a Play, and the City That Would Not Be Broken.”

“In our darkest hours,” Pierce tweeted, “faith and family is all we have and need.”

At least eight deaths have been blamed on the flooding, which began Friday and resulted in the evacuation of more than 20,000 people in Baton Rogue and the surrounding parishes. President Obama declared a federal emergency in the state on Sunday.

At LAX, Pierce was asked if he planned on raising money for the flood-ravaged city.

“I don’t know what I am going to do,” he said. “I lost everything.”
