Wendy's Is Changing Up Their Burgers

From Delish

Most American fast food chains have a trademark dish, a culinary detail that’s distinctive to their brand. KFC has its buckets, Subway has those $5 footlongs, and Wendy’s has square hamburger patties. They’ve been serving this particular shape for 45 years, so any disruption to the formula is sure to raise eyebrows. Change is hard.

Wendy’s is indeed switching up their burger game, but the patties will stay square. The company announced today that they’re introducing a new “bakery-style” bun for their burgers, which is inspired by founder Dave Thomas’ original recipe. The buns will also now be slathered in Dave’s signature mayo. Oh, and burgers will now come to you wrapped in foil, to keep them extra hot and fresh.

The new buns come as part of Wendy’s 2016 campaign to spotlight how “deliciously different” they are from their competitors. Their restaurants use only 100% fresh, never frozen American beef, topped with premium produce that’s prepped on location. If it seems like they’re trying to distance themselves from the expired beef at McDonald’s or the E.coli disasters at Chipotle, well… that little pigtailed girl is pretty good at side-eye.
