Obama in California: At the end of a summit with Asian leaders, the president addressed the constitutional confrontation brewing back in Washington, where Senate leaders have refused to consider the candidate Obama will soon nominate to replace Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. “I intend to do my job between now and January 20 of 2017,” Obama said. “I expect them to do their job as well.” Russell explains what to expect here.
Ukraine's fragile political climate: Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s government, which has been criticized for slowness in implementing reforms and has garnered allegations of corruption, survived a no-confidence vote in parliament. Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko asked Yatsenyuk to resign, saying the prime minister, who took office just before Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014, had lost the country’s confidence.
