It's not a matter of whether we are going to let them or not, they are going to do if they want.

I sure don't see anyone pony'ing up the money to fight another trillion dollar war nor do I see supporters with a war in Iran lining up at the army recruiting station to be the first to walk point across the Iranian border either. As long as it's someone ele's kid, it's ok, right?

The war in Iraq would be a cakewalk in comparison to a war with Iran considering their military is much stronger and Iran has 3x the population (of fighting age men) than Iraq.

So if war is the answer, who will be the first to go and who will be the first to offer to pay higher taxes to support it? Our last 2 wars are still on Uncle Sam's credit card and still drawing interest as I write this.

Ummm... Wars are never budgeted. Wars are never fought out of convenience, they happen because one or both parties are unwilling to negotiate. You don't see people that support action against Iran "lining up to fight" because you aren't a military recruiter. Doubtless those people are seeing at least a few willing to fit the corrupt clerics. What we will see if we don't at least confront these arrogant, elitist, corrupt Iranian leaders is a continuing boldness and willingness to flaunt international law and disrupt commerce that will cost us much more than 1 trillion in losses.

CitationX_N7V11C if a war with Iran is what you want, then go enlist and volunteer to be in the initial assault on Iran.

The US works because all laws apply equally to all people (for the most part within the bounds of human fallibility).

The same standard should be used for nations under international law. If a different set of rules applies to Iran than other nations, they'll always be enemies.

moslem countries are sexually frustrated. no way the islamic republic should have it's hands on nuclear weapons. they are crazy and messed up in the head. kaboom!
      • D. 4 mths ago
Almost as crazy and messed up as a country that blew away two entire cities full of civilians in WWII.

Your #$%$ right we can't afford another trillion dollar war. We know it and so does the rest of the world, that is why Congress and politics cannot have any say in this one.......Wham Bam Thank You Mam.............Get R Done and get out!
      • Ted Stosterone 4 mths ago
Larry H,,,,,,we can afford WAR all day long, EVERY day.

That's one thing this country isn't afraid of going broke over.
We'll turn in scrap metal if we have to.
We'll do the ration stamps again if we have to.

BUT WE AREN'T GONNA BACK OUT OVER MONEY!!!!

The US and UK intervened in Iran a half century ago, because British and American "decision-makers" didn't like the elected government there. The direct consequences of that were a quarter-century of authoritarian rule, and the eventual political back-blast that propelled the Mullah's into power. Can we, please, not make the same mistake twice?

Thank you for the soundbite, Iconoblaster. How about some actual history? The Iranian govt under Mossaddegh nationalized the UK oil interests in Iran. That kind of peeved off the Brits (who were acting like jerks in terms of royalty payments to the Iranian govt). Further, there was fear of growing Soviet influence in Iran. Whether it was true that the Soviets were pursuing interests in Iran at the time remains a matter of speculation, the joys of a Cold War. Sadly, the Shah was a truly greedy man who kept most of the spoils for himself. Kind of like what we see in most autocratic oil countries today. What the Shah did do right was to be a progressive. The Ayatollahs were anti-progressive (like most Muslims) and managed to whip up the country's youth into a blood frenzy (Can you say Occupy Wall Street?). However, within a few years of the Ayatollahs taking power and forcing out the Shah, a sizable number of Iranians had buyer's remorse and realized it wasn't really that bad under the Shah. Oh, and let's not forget the pogroms that the Ayatollahs engaged in that resulted in the slaughter of many innocent Iranian civilians. Today, Iran is run much the same way as North Korea, with a regime that suppresses the masses and engages in rhetoric and actions that hints at a desire on their part for war. For further reading, may I suggest the graphic novel, Persepolis, and the biography, Reading Lolita in Tehran?

After one goes off in New York...THEN we'll make them stop...

Exactly my point. When do we say oops! too late, oh well...

NY is the crash dummy for America and I am not saying that with rude intentions but we all know we could have been a little more vigilant about the first attack. Atleast I would think the people in NY feel that way...although, when I was a child sometimes I had to stick my hand in a fire a couple of times before I learned my lesson
      • Truth Rising 4 mths ago
When that happens, rest assured, it will have come from within our own government as a false flag operation.

Iran doesnt need nuclear weapons it only needs dirty bombs.. put a few in our major cities and detonate them. radioactive particles everywhere! the city shuts down..cancer rates go up.. think it wont happen? just let them keep enriching and see what happens..
    • ted W  •  4 mths ago
The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty allows countries to enrich uranium if they agree to rigorous monitoring. Should that standard apply to ISRAEL, too???
    • D.  •  4 mths ago
We let Pakistan, India, and North Korea have one... why not Iran? The only difference about Iran is they're threatening Israel... which makes this a religious issue.
    • kozz  •  4 mths ago
Never mind that. Why not just let them build a bomb? Better to have two nuclear enemies than an unopposed nuclear power. Right now Israel is unopposed and as dangerous as America was in the 50's and early 60's when it was trying to keep its nuclear advantage.
    • Yuri Chenzenko  •  4 mths ago
PROPAGANDA news ...and why The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty not going after Israel on it nuclear program LOL
    • markt  •  4 mths ago
If you were the leader of Iran, would you do the same thing as he is doing today? Do you really expect Iran to bury his head in the sand and wait to be the next Iraq?
    • Bob  •  Dallas, Texas  •  4 mths ago
For the last decade, month after month US, Israel and EU have said Iran is months away from building a nuclear bomb, which so far has been nothing but lies, at the same time Israel has stockpiled near 300 nuclear bombs. There is some thing wrong with picture.

I'm guessing they already are, or could get some if they really want it for weapons. I think your either pregnant, or not.
    • JonL  •  Montpelier, Vermont  •  4 mths ago
the author of the article himself said that all other countries are subject to intrusive inspections and this is exactly what Iran has not allowed happen time and time again. enough is enough. let the sanctions cripple the current regime. it's a middle eastern movement that is widespread and elections in Iran are just around the corner. should be interesting.

Only if the West believes women should not have rights and homosexuals should be executed. BTW Pakistan gave Iran nukes awhile ago.
    • TJE  •  4 mths ago
Let's say that China eventually becomes the world's strongest superpower. This is not so far-fetched an idea, and it will probably happen. What happens when China decides we don't have the right to build any advanced means of energy production, because it can be used for weapons? What is your reaction then? Whatever you're thinking now is the same principle to apply to any other country. A principle is a principle, and if you're not using principles, you're using force. At that point, might makes right, and is that really the type of world in which to live?

It's a win-lose game. The minute they launch a nuclear warhead, they get hit from so many directions so quickly, they won't get up for 100 years. Do they want to be smart and play nice in the sand box, or are they out for that Darwin Award?
