What to Stream: The Ultimate Rom-Com Parody for Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is upon us, but instead of watching your favorite romantic comedy for the umpteenth time, we’ve got a hilarious parody of the rom-com genre that you can stream this weekend.

They Came Together is a severely underrated 2014 comedy from David Wain and Michael Showalter, the team behind the cult classic Wet Hot American Summer.

Paul Rudd plays a corporate confection stooge who falls in love with Molly (Amy Poehler), the owner of a small candy shop threatened by Rudd’s corporation. If that setup sounds like something you’ve seen a hundred times, that’s kind of the point. The film builds out the skeleton of a rom-com so it can eviscerate the myriad clichés that make the genre so formulaic.

You can watch They Came Together free with a Hulu subscription; it’s also available for purchase on all major streaming services.

If you’re looking to inject some political discussion into your Valentine’s Day fun, try steaming this 1957 classic that eerily foretells the rise of Donald Trump.
