What's Missile-Firing North Korea Mad About This Week?
For the second time in a week, North Korea fired projectiles into the Sea of Japan. According to CNN, an official with the South Korean Defense Ministry says that four missiles were fired toward the Sea of Japan on Wednesday.
The projectiles were fired from the central part of North Korea.
Two of the projectiles appeared to have not launched successfully, ceasing to fly after a few seconds, the official said.
It's been an exceptionally missile-heavy 2014 for the isolated regime, whose alarming weapons tests and projectile firings have often coincided with some perceived offense.
On Saturday, on the eve of the 61st anniversary of the armistice that ended war (but not hostility) with South Korea, North Korea reportedly conducted a short-range ballistic missile test.
As we noted last month, two Scud-C missiles were fired just days after Kim Jong-un declared his outrage at the plot of the James Franco-Seth Rogen joint The Interview, the plot of which involves killing the North Korean leader. It doesn't end there.
Back in May, North Korea threatened to conduct what would be its fourth nuclear test in response to a United Nations report about torture and forced abductions in the country. And back in March, as a response to ongoing joint military drills between the United States and South Korea, North Korea fired upwards of 25 missiles into the sea.
