Where Bollywood Is Taking Us In 2013

Whether it is the hilly retreats of India, the ancient cities of Europe or the soothing beaches of South Africa, Bollywood fans are visually treated to the most exotic places around the globe. Here’s a pick of movies with our favourite locations—and stars—to look forward to in 2013:

RACE 2 on 25 January
Cast: Continuing from Race, Saif Ali Khan is Ranveer Singh and Anil Kapoor is Robert D’Costa. New characters in the film include John Abraham as the head of a mafia group, Amisha Patel as D’Costa’s new assistant along with Deepika Padukone, Sanjay Dutt, and Jacqueline Fernandez.
Directed by: Abbas-Mustan, the duo known for previous thrillers like Naqaab and Aitraaz.
What it’s about:Ranveer Singh combs through the Indian mafia in Turkey in search of revenge for the death of his lover.
Shot in: Turkey and Mumbai. Featured in the film extensively are places in North Cyprus and the Turkish cities of Antalya and Istanbul. Scenes were shot in the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, at casinos, beaches, and Mardan Palace in Istanbul.

DAVID on February 1
Cast: Vikram, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Vinay Virmani play David in different eras. They are accompanied by Tabu, Lara Dutta, Isha Sharvani and Monica Dogra.
Directed by: Bejoy Nambiar, who debuted in 2011 with Shaitan.
What it’s about: The movie revolves around three people called David and their lives, each set in the London underworld of the 70s, a political Mumbai in the 90s and a Goan fishing village in the present.
Shot in: Kerala, Mumbai, Canada and Ireland. Scenes that needed a Goan backdrop were shot in Alleppey and Kuttanad in Kerala, with the Mangalorean beach set up as a Goan beach. Most of the scenes involving Neil Nitin Mukesh’s character were shot in Ooty and Canadaincluding a few in Belfast in Ireland, and Virmani’s scenes were shot in Mumbai.

MURDER 3 on February 15
Cast: Randeep Hooda as fashion photographer Vikram, Aditi Rao Hydari as Roshni and Pakistani actress Sara Loren as Nisha.
Directed by: Debutant Vishesh Bhatt, who has been an associate producer for films like Gangster and Woh Lamhe.
What it’s about: Inspired by the Spanish La Cara Occulta, the story is about Vikram and Nisha set in his old, palatial house, where Nisha finds out about the disappearance of his previous girlfriend Roshni.
Shot in: Goa and Cape Town. Apart from the blue ocean and white beaches, the lush wilderness of the South African city is the perfect setting for a spooky house.

3G on March 15
Cast: Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonal Chauhan as Sam and Sheena Arora.
Directed by: Sheershak Anand and Shantanu Ray Chhibber, the duo who wrote the recent Table No. 21.
What it’s about: On a holiday in the Fiji Islands, Sam and Sheena get a life changing phantom phone call on their 3G enabled second-hand cell phone.
Shot in: The Fiji Islands, a favourite shooting spot for Hollywood island-adventure movies like Cast Away. 3G was filmed near and around the Pacific Harbour, Nadi and Suva.

YEH JAWANI HAI DEEWANI on March 31
Cast: Ranbir Kapoor plays a travel show host, with Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, Aditya Roy Kapur and Poorna Jagannathan.
Directed by: Ayan Mukherji, who made his mark in 2009 with his first film, Wake Up Sid.
What it’s about: The movie is said to be a tribute to Nasir Hussain’s films like Tumsa Nahin Dekha and Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai.
Shot in: Mumbai, Manali, and Udaipur. A five-minute sequence was also shot in Paris, reportedly at the Rue Mouffetard.

SHORTCUT ROMEO on April 5
Cast: Neil Nitin Mukesh as Romeo, along with Amisha Patel and Puja Gupta.
Directed by: Susi Ganeshan, a Tamil film director, who is making his Bollywood debut with this film.
What it’s about: A remake of the director’s Tamil film Thiruttu Payale, the film revolves around Romeo and his blackmailing antics that ultimately backfire.
Shot in: Mumbai and Kenya. The film has been shot extensively in the Masai Mara and the city of Nairobi.

GO GOA GONE on April 5
Cast: Saif Ali Khan plays a blonde-haired Russian mafioso, along with Kunal Khemu, Vir Das, Anand Tiwari and Puja Gupta.
Directed by: Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, known for Shor in the City and 99.
What it’s about: A first of its kind Bollywood zombie-comedy film, the movie is about three friends who are heading from Mumbai to Goa in search of the quintessential adventure but end up getting involved in a zombie attack.
Shot in: The old town areas and the remote interiors of Goa. A few scenes have also been shot in Mumbai.

DOSTANA 2 on August 15
Cast: Apart from Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham, the sequel to Dostana will have Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal and Riteish Deshmukh.
Directed by: Tarun Mansukhani, director and writer of Dostana.
What it’s about: While filmmakers have been tight lipped about the story line, it is clear that Sameer and Kunal are now in London.
Shot in: After the beachside antics in Miami, the sequel is rumoured to be shot in London, with a few scenes in Punjab.

ISHKQ IN PARIS
Cast:
Preity Zinta as Ishkq, Rhehan Malliek (or Gaurav Chanana) as Akash and French actress Isabelle Adjani as Ishkq’s mother.
Directed by: Prem Soni, the writer and director of the Salman-Kareena starrer, Main Aur Mrs Khanna.
What it’s about: When Ishkq and Akash meet up on a train journey from Rome to Paris and part ways after spending an evening together, Akash realises that he is in love with her.
Shot in: Prague, Lyon and Paris. The trailer itself is a journey through Paris, with its glitzy nightlife, classy restaurants, chic locals and quaint streets.

RAM LEELA
Cast:
Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Abhimanyu Singh.
Directed by: Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose previous films include Sawaariya, Black and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
What it’s about: Rumoured to be a love story set against plenty of violence, two people from orthodox families fall in love against their families’ wishes.
Shot in: Bhuj and Kutch regions of Gujarat. While sets were made specially to portray Gujarat in the Film City studio in Mumbai, the crew and cast also travelled to Gujarat to shoot vital outdoor scenes on-location.
