White House adviser blames tea party for downgrade

WASHINGTON (AP) — A top White House adviser is blaming the downgrade of the U.S. credit rating on tea party Republicans, whom he says were unwilling to compromise on how to reduce the federal debt.

The adviser to President Barack Obama, David Axelrod, tells CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday that the decision by the Standard & Poor's credit agency to downgrade the U.S. from AAA to AA+ for the first time was strongly influenced by weeks of standoff between Democrats and Republicans over the debt.

Axelrod calls the action, in his words, "a tea party downgrade" and says it's clearly on the backs of lawmakers who were willing to see the country default to get their way.

Axelrod also criticized GOP presidential candidates for not speaking up in favor of compromise.

        You can't deny that.

All of these tea party bashers would be laughable if they weren't so pathetic. They are like a bunch of whining adolescents that are getting their credit cards taken away because they charged them up so much they needed to borrow money to make their minimum payments. A perfect reflection of the part of our society that would be so gullible as to vote Democrat.
So if someone is so irresponsible as to get themselves that far into debt, and they eventually get their credit rating lowered, would it make any sense for them to blame it on their parents because they delayed yet another a new credit card application to held out for a cut in the spending?...while the child's biggest idea was demand an increase in allowance? Once again, nothing the liberal Democrats' position has no fact or comon sense in it - just more name calling and misleading propaganda.

For 30 years the government has been spending, taxing, allowing for loopholes, making a total mess of things on both sides of the aisle. You can't keep a spending addiction going without consequence. We are going to have to demand most industries and services be privatized and become the police, not rely so heavily on the government to take care of everything for us. The entire tax structure has to change, so we have only consumption and service tax, as well as bureaucracy eliminated as much as possible, even in healthcare. I personally do not see the need for insurance companies as we could provide access for everyone without it.

privatization means add a healthy profit to what you are already paying. The private sector will let your infrastructure rot, and give themselves 7 figures.

Tort reform would go along way with healthcare reform. But you're not going to get that with Lawyers running the country.
As far as privatization ask Canada how that's working out for their air traffic control Discotex. It is one of the best since they privatized it. Governement just creates bureucracy and waste. How can Federal Express and UPS make money but USPS looses $3.1 Billion in the last quarter alone?

Why is it the government blames everyone else but themselves and our "fearless leader" for the downgrade as well as the downfall of our country as a whole?

He appeared to be a fine super example of the Black race and what the rest of us were overlooking or ignoring. In truth he is a Face with questionable history, no friends, no old girlfriends, no jobs, etc. Where did he come from? I believe he has set back the cause of the Black race fifty years. What a poor excuse for a leader. There are and have been many other qualified Blacks that actually have experience in running businesses, of comprehending economics. We should have looked closer. We missed the good ones.

Blame everyone and point the finger at everyone but yourself. If you scream it loud enough and often enough, maybe you can fool most of the people all the time. Silly White House.

The S&P report specifically blamed Republicans.
    • John C  •  9 mths ago
People face up to the reality. We DO NOT have money to maintain our current rate of SPENDING.

The S&P downgrade report specifically points out ENTITLEMENTS as being unsustainable and therefore responsible for the DOWNGRADE. Here is what the report says, "...the plan envisions only minor policy changes on Medicare and little change in other entitlements, the containment of which we and most other independent observers regard as key to long-term fiscal sustainability."

Asselrod.. who?? Are you kidding. If the tea party members were able to get what they wanted.. (more cuts and less spending and less government) Our rating would have stayed the same. We no longer manufacture anything in this country, get companies money to create jobs overseas, pay farmers not to grow anything, pay to not access our energy resouces. And lets not forget what our "leader" was doing... ummm oh yeah, he was saying congress needed to make a deal that he liked or he would veto it ( but without a teleprompter to tell him something, he couldn't come up with his own plan ).. and since the downgrade, he hasn't said anything. How can ANYONE consider this goof a leader. and Joey the parrot should be ashamed of himself, he is an embarrassment to Delaware, to call people who want to take back our country from china, and other countries, a bunch of terrorists. That is demeaning to our servicemen and women who actually put thier lives on the line for our country, including his son Beau.

How did Tea Party push up the debt that caused this downgrade? According to S&Ps own downgrade report it has blamed the ENTITLEMENTS.

Government or individual, there is only ONE thing that will "downgrade" your credit.
And, that is, OWING MORE than you are capable of paying.
    • Angel  •  9 mths ago
Oh yeah, Tea Partiers tried to warn of the impending downgrade. We have been called teabaggers, terrorists and now the WH tries to blame us. I say NOOOOOOOOO! Let's put the blame where it belongs.....This one falls squarely on the Progressives in both parties who believe in tax and spend. It's time to get rid of the corruption that is Congress and the White House. Stop government fraud waist and abuse in 2012...We voters can't wait.

The only way to fix Washinton is to either fire all of them like that california town did....Or put cameras in every office so we can see and hear whats going on. Or there will be a revolution. So sad that ALL of them are pushing American citizens in that direction.
    • A Yahoo! User  •  9 mths ago
We have totally flipped upside down and gone into the abyss of insanity. So when I personally go broke because I spend to much its my bosses fault for not paying me enough? Im stunned by the level of ignorance in the this country. TOTALLY STUNNED.
    • Captain Obvious  •  9 mths ago
Sure, it has nothing to do with the government spending and/or giving away more money than it makes....

      The Quote of the Decade

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better” Senator Barack H. Obama March 2006
    • Mike  •  9 mths ago
We need a leader not a finger pointer.

Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.

Suppose you spend more money this month than your income. This situation is called a "budget deficit". So you borrow (ie; use your credit card). The amount you borrowed (and now owe) is called your debt. You have to pay interest on your debt. If next month you spend more than your income, another deficit, you must borrow some more, and you'll still have to pay the interest on your debt (now larger). If you have a deficit every month, you keep borrowing and your debt grows. Soon the interest payment on your loan is bigger than any other item in your budget. Eventually, all you can do is pay the interest payment, and you don't have any money left over for anything else. This situation is known as bankruptcy.

The Tea Party who is made up of our working class and all of main stream America was trying to get DC to do its job for the first time in their lives and the history of this country.
