    White House wants to address contraceptives rule

    WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says it wants to allay the concerns of Catholic church-affiliated employers over a new requirement for them to provide birth control coverage regardless of their religious beliefs.

    Press secretary Jay Carney didn't say how those concerns could be addressed, though he said there were a lot of ideas for doing it.

    He continued to defend the new policy, while making clear Tuesday that the White House is looking for a way to calm the growing election-year firestorm that's erupted since it was announced late last month.

    Carney said President Barack Obama's focus is making sure that women employed by Catholic church-affiliated employers like hospitals, colleges or charities are able to get contraception. At the same time, Carney said Obama wants to respect religious beliefs and convictions.

      @Pdc there is a real difference between a Jesus Freak and a real freak. You are a definite example of the latter. The problem here is we are dealing with a pathological liar regarding our president. All he is doing is setting the stage for the progressive that will follow him who will use the "Law" exactly the way it is written and interpreted by his holiness the pres or his Czars. It's all a matter of spin in the present and old Pdc (which surely doesn't stand for Pretty #$%$ cute) is living in the present too. 20 years from now Pdc will either change his tune or be living on the street.

        Heck.... In 2008 the Priest at my church was speaking against Obama before he was elected. The were trying to push the Catholic agenda. And yes, as a Catholic we know our Church has an agenda and it does not only involve saving souls. So it will not be anything new if I am at mass and hear the same story that we heard in 2008.

      Obama Keeps pushing the limits of the Constitution to see how much he can set new precident for violating. He tested the waters after his lated decision that not only violates the Constitution but legislation signed into law the day of his inauguration (the Hyde Act) which already allowed churches and chrch run hospitals the flexibility to deny treatment the is against their doctrine.

      Obama has shown time and again he has not regard for the Constitution or the Rule of Law.

        The problem is we have conceded too much to superstitions already in this country. If you want to do business in this country you are going to have to act like the rest of the businesses in this country. Why should you be any different. Did obama say as a condition of your employment that you would be required to take these drugs everyday? So tell your doctor you dont take these drugs. If you think for just a second, maybe not everyone who works in the church is as much of a bat sghit crazy jesus freak as you are.

        Our Bishops and other leaders in The Church needs to understand that no one is forcing us to use contraceptives. I am a member of the Catholic church and a responsible member of society, as such I think it is my responsibility as well as that of my wife to make the choice on how many children we want to bring into this world. Not the decision of the Church. If any of us should work for our diocese I think it would be only right that the same benefits we get working anywhere else in corporate America be given to us as workers for the church, This is not about the way we worship.

        @Miami Ican remember the Dem Party Mantra from when I was a young man back in W Va in the late 50's and early 60's was Vote early and vote often and don't forget your family and friends in the cementary. I also remembe the 60 Presidential election when both W Va and Mayor Daley in Chicago held back the results until it was known wheither JFK needed the votes or not. I loved JFK and consider myself to be a JFK dem but absolutely not a far left wing uber liberal progressive pro union anti religion dem. And surprise surprise he did let the church instutions off the hook but has mandated that the insurance companies cover the contaception medicines and services at no copay from the receiver of the services and meds. What will the DEAR LEADER mandate next for U S citizens to buy at threat of a fine or which business will he mandate provide services or materials at no cost.

        Get over the name calling. You need to face the fact - if you work with any organization in America, you would want to get the same healthcare benefits (if not better) than all your friends. This is not about limiting the way we worship, it is speaking about equality in the choice of the healthcare that all employees should provide.

        AIDS ran rampant amongst those Priest in the 80s. The Church needs to go into denial about that also.

      The comments here are frightening --- The White House has made it clear --- you have to provide coverage for contraception --- no one is required in the Holy Catholic world to take it but you have to provide coverage for it for employees. Do you honestly think everyone working at a Catholic hospital is Catholic. People are bringing up what the Romans did to Christianity --- well let's look at what the Holy Catholic church has brought to the world ---- decimated native cultures all around the world to convert, the Crusades ---- denial during WWII Holocaust, denial of all the huge sexual and physical abuse to children around the world. I think you have more important issues to be concerned about in the 2012 with you CHURCH!
